The power of philanthropy

Updated: May 6, 2021

It is said, “Think of the past, as its remembrance gives you pleasures." The past can never be forgotten, particularly when success is achieved after hard work full of deep determination and dedication. I am happy to receive a positive response and reaction from the people for our magazine LAKSHYA. Token of few words of appreciation has undoubtedly boosted our strength. Informative articles and literature published in this magazine during the last one and a half year have its a remarkable impact.

I congratulate my entire team for their cooperation and support to improve the quality of these issues. I also express my thanks to trainees, staff of FPH, and others for their informative and inspiring articles on the said issues. I am delighted to put before you this issue on the subject of social work. It is our endeavor to make the people aware of the life sketch of prominent social workers who have dedicated their lives to the welfare of society.

History reveals that the world is full of problems. On the humanitarian ground, many prominent social workers come forward to the rescue and rehabilitation of the downtrodden. Providing bread, butter, and shelter to needy people without compassion is the main motive of social work. Like any other career field, social work has a language of its own. When one becomes knowledgeable of the social work language, they are more apt to have a better understanding of what is given in society.

Social workers all time involve themselves to improve the quality of life of mankind. The practice of social work is a program of evaluation and community development. It is not enough to rehabilitate the poor and the suffering, but it is extremely necessary to restore their rights. The works of many known and unknown social workers commemorate the golden words in history.

Mother Teresa, Raja Rammohun Roy, Baba Amite, Dr. Ambedkar, J Jijibhoy, Jyotiba Phule, Sudha Varghese, Sudha Morty, and many others are the example of the power of philanthropy who has dedicated their lives with the unselfish purpose for the development of the poor and neglected community. These social workers have justified the words of well-known author, Albert Pike “What we do for ourselves dies with us, what we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.”

On the national as well as international levels we have seen and experienced the functions of those philanthropists, who have not only evaluated the poor community but have helped to get their equal status in the society.
