Over the years, perceptions towards the disability have varied significantly from one community to another. Many people with disability have contributed to the society. These include actors, scientists, world leaders and many other famous people, who lived with physical impairments.
There are also millions of people worldwide, who may not be famous, but still live with battle and try to overcome their limitations. Hellen Keller, a person with multiple disability (blind, deaf and mute), whose name written with the golden words in the history said, “Optimism is the faith leads to achievements. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence”.
Prodigious story of life of not only Hellen Keller, but many other disabled celebrities inspired normal persons of the society. Therefore the theme of our current issue of the magazine LAKSHYA is” Life is worth living even with disability.”
I had invited many prominent writers of different categories to through some light of successful handicapped personalities. I had also invited certain disabled people of different fields, who have accepted the challenge in life and have come out with flying colors. I am extremely happy to state that they contributed their profile with encouraging words. I express my humble gratitude to all those who have supported me to focus on this vital subject.
After going through the success stories of these disabled, now known as Differently Able, I share with you a few lines of a poem written by Shree Harivanshray Bachhan
I happily conclude my article with courageous and optimistic words of the famous song “We shall overcome”
We shall overcome, we shall overcome
We shall overcome, some day
Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe
We shall overcome someday.
